Arianna Huffington Receives Aenne Burda Award

Arianna Huffington Receives Aenne Burda Award

Arianna Huffington, founder and chief-executive editor of the Internet-newspaper The Huffington Post, was honored with the Aenne Burda Award during the last day (January 24) of the international digital conference DLD in Munich. Dr. Maria Furtwängler-Burda consigned the trophy, a statue of Pallas Athene. The award honors successful and creative female entrepreneurs with visionary ideas from the digital world, this year for the seventh time already. Maria Furtwängler pleaded in her laudatory speech for female empowerment as start-up founders. Arianna Huffington could serve as a role model here: “Arianna Huffington experienced backstrokes and was never deterred by them – her fearlessness is a stimulus for women, to get active themselves.”

Arianna Huffington, born as Arianna Stassinopoulos in July 1950 in Greece, counts as one of the leading and most influential women of the modern media generation. Still in May 2005, when “Huffington Post” entered the online-media world, nobody took her serious. Today, six years later, “Huffington Post” is a constant in American journalism. In February 2011 the internet corporation AOL acquired “Huffington Post” for $315 million. Huffington is also a successful book author and published, among others, “One Becoming Fearless: …in Love, Work and Life” and “Third World America”. In 2006 and 2011 Huffington was on Time Magazine’s “Time 100” list, which features the 100 most influential people worldwide.

The “Aenne Burda Award for Creative Leadership” honors women for their entrepreneurial and creative achievements within the digital industry. The price is consigned in memory of the visionary entrepreneur Aenne Burda, one of the gorgeous symbolic figures of the German post-war generation. After 1949, Aenne Burda grew the world’s biggest fashion publishing house. The award is consigned since 2006. Earlier honorees are Marissa Mayer, Vice President of Google (2006), Flickr founder Caterina Fake (2007), TV-presenter and entrepreneur Martha Stewart (2008), internet-pioneer and investor Esther Dyson (2009), chairwoman of the Mozilla Foundation Mitchell Baker (2010) as well as Net-a-Porter founder Natalie Massenet (2011).

Arianna Huffington, David Brookson and others debate American politics

"Basically, the two-party system is like a stale marriage. Democrats and Republicans need something to spice it up. They need to go on Craigslist and find a third party."

Intelligence Squared Debates Examines America's Two-Party System

Arianna Huffington & David Brooks Square Off Against P.J. O'Rourke & Zev Chafets to Debate: America's Two-Party System is Making America Ungovernable
Debate to broadcast on NPR stations nationwide and telecast on Bloomberg TV globally beginning February 21 at 9PM EST

PR Newswire

NEW YORK, Feb. 16, 2011

NEW YORK, Feb. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The latest round in America's premier debate series, Intelligence Squared Debates, pitted President and Editor-in-Chief of Huffington Post Media Group, Arianna Huffington and New York Times columnist David Brooks, against America's premier political satirist P.J. O'Rourke, and Zev Chafets, contributor to the New York Times Magazine and founding editor of the Jerusalem Report.

The controversial resolution at Intelligence Squared Debates' (IQ2US) latest intellectual matchup was the second in their themed season, "America's House Divided." The debate was moderated by ABC News Nightline's John Donvan.

Key excerpts from the debate include:

ARIANNA HUFFINGTON

"Basically, the two-party system is like a stale marriage. Democrats and Republicans need something to spice it up. They need to go on Craigslist and find a third party."

DAVID BROOKS

"So they're weird social creatures [politicians]. Nonetheless, I would say in general, they are better people than one would anticipate. Most of them are in it for the right reason, but they're stuck in a rotten system. They're stuck in our current two-party system which forces them to behave in ways that are worse than they are. It's a mind suck."

P.J. O'ROURKE

"Now, I would argue in favor of America's two-party system not because of America's two political parties but because America doesn't really have political parties at all … Republicans and Democrats don't have ideologies. They just have these vague platform planks made of rotten wood of political expediency. If American party platforms were backyard tree forts, you would not let your children climb in them. Anyone can join an American political party, even a witch!"

ZEV CHAFETS

"In multi-party systems, there are many people who also don't feel that they're represented by any of the parties. And I, having lived in a country [Israel] that has 14 parties, I can tell you that I didn't find any that represented me -- that's sort of an inherent problem of democracy. If you have a party that fits the taste of every person or every group of people, you'll have hundreds or a multiplicity of parties that makes it impossible to govern."

For this specific debate, the audience not only voted on the resolution, but also identified their political party affiliation – Republican, Democrat, Independent – at the top of the evening. Before the debate, the IQ2US audience voted with the following:

* 46 % of audience agreeing with the resolution
* 24 % of audience against the resolution
* 30 % undecided

After carefully considering the points, P.J. O'Rourke and Zev Chafets won the debate -- the team that moves the most votes at the end of the evening is determined the winner.

* 50 % of audience agreeing with the resolution
* 40 % of audience against the resolution
* 10 % undecided

The showdown at NYU's Skirball Center in New York City (566 LaGuardia Place) put the leading public intellectuals in the limelight in front of a live sold-out audience of 800 for nearly two hours of heated debate.

Hillary Clinton, Arianna Huffington, Hillary Haters and the MSM

I read the report on Tom Brokaw Slams Press Drumbeat For Hillary's Exit: "Inappropriate", "Commentary Disguised As Reporting" written by DAVID BAUDER June 9, 2008 12:01 AM EST .

I believe that Arianna Huffington does not like the Clintons for issues best known to her.
I suspect that she has something against Hillary Clinton, but I am sure her resentment against Hillary Clinton goes back in time before she co-founded the Huffington Post.

"Hillary's too vane to be president. It didn't matter much that Sen. Clinton is a fickle leader -- until Obama came along."
~ Arianna Huffington

Moreover, she has a crush on Barack Obama.:)

The American mainstream news media that should have campaigned for the impeachment of President George W. Bush failed to do so, and instead diverted their focus on the making of Barack Obama mamia, the American Idol of the mainstream news media and like a pack of wolves bared their fangs and claws to tear the Clintons to shreds and scuttle the presidential ambition of Senator Hillary Clinton. They fawned and swooned over Senator Barack Obama who actually patronized them and spent more millions of dollars on advert placements and slots on the news channels of the mainstream news media.

I can bet that they will not join Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) in the 35 articles of impeachment against President Bush, because they are hypocrites and puppets of their employers and patrons, the stakeholders and shareholders in the corporations benefiting from the spin-offs of the war in Iraq and the capitalists supporting the draconian economic policies of the Bush administration.

The 2008 U.S. Presidential Campaign exposed the intellectual fallacy and hypocrisy of the American news media, because the mainstream news reporters, anchors and talkshow hosts compromised the principles of objective journalism for filthy lucre.

Remember Marc Cooper's nasty "Hillary's Ignominious Finale" posted on the Huffington Post on February 26, 2008 at 11:03 PM (EST)?

Many HuffPost writers and wannabes composed their best articles on how to dismiss Hillary Clinton even before the New Hampshire Primary, only to be shocked when she won and went ahead to become the Democratic frontrunner.

When Barack Obama had his winning streak in the following caucuses and primaries after the Super Tuesday, the Huffington Post and the pack of Hillary Haters were howling at Hillary Clinton to chase her off the presidential race, but she disgraced them by not giving up and going ahead to defeat Barack Obama in the next major primaries in Ohio and Pennsylvania. What Marc Cooper called Hillary's Ignominious Finale in February became a magnanimous finale for Hillary Clinton last Saturday, June 7, 2008.

She has proved her mettle and became the Feminist hero of the American Dream .
Hillary Clinton has lost the presidential nomination in 2008, but she has gained the consolidation of her presidential ambition for the future.

The Falling Standards of the American News Media

Rev. Jeremiah Wright

Who pushed the American mainstream media off the wall?
Rupert Murdoch or those Arianna Huffington called the lunatic fringe elements?

The best news in America is the childish and foolish debate over whether Miley Cyrus posed topless or backless for Vanity Fair magazine and the political nonsense over Rev. Jeremiah Wright's right to his own opinions.

Miley Cyrus

Americans want Rev. Jeremiah Wright to give up his life long convictions on calling a spade a spade without apologies or regrets, but he has proved to be a man of principles.
Senator Barack Obama cannot dictate to Rev. Jeremiah Wright and make him retract his unpatriotic statements. Rev. Jeremiah Wright is not Barack Obama's Man Friday.

Senator Barack Obama is so desperate to win the presidential nomination of the Democratic Party that he ready to even push his spiritual godfather over the cliff.

As the American news channels are falling over themselves over Miley Cyrus's photographs in Vanity Fair and the personal principles of Rev. Jeremiah Wright, more American soldiers are being killed in Iraq and these heroes never made headlines or cover stories.

Is this the American Dream of the Founding Founders of America or the American Nightmare?

God help America.
